Luton Man Jailed in SKY TV SCAM "Hacked SKY TV Signal"

A Luton man will not be enjoying a Xmas dinner this year as Judge Michael Kay QC sent the Business Man down for 16 months.
Story written by Jeremy Stenton-Jones   Google+
SKY TV BSKYB celebrated the result and said "This should be a warning" Luton Business man Michael Gearty advertised modified satellite receivers on Amazon and sold them for £100 a time selling a total of 227 satellite receivers that allowed the purchaser to watch SKY TV for FREE.

With clients as far away as the Costa del Sol and Portugal the operation resulted in a loss of revenue in the region of £170'000. Kevin Barry, prosecuting, said: "There were a total of 227 users. If each of them had paid for a Sky World package that would have cost £62.25 a month. Over a 12 month period the loss of revenue to BSKYB would be £169,569.

He said computer expert Steven Ellis had set up the operation in Luton on behalf of Gearty, 57 In his basis of plea to the court Gearty said the scam had been set up by his deceased brother Les and he had taken it on. That was not accepted by the prosecution, said Mr Barry.

"The illegally modified Dream decoder set top boxes allowed people to watch television they did not have to pay for. They were advertised on Amazon Marketplace as giving free access to Sky. Amazon are now wise to that."
103 boxes were sold over Amazon with the remaining 125 distributed through other means.

The money received was paid into bank accounts for Bedfordshire Property Services Limited, Gearty's company.

Gearty bought at least two genuine Sky subscriptions, which were paid for from his business account. Ellis was able to send out decoded broadcasts from a server set up in Runley Road, Luton - a multi-occupancy property in which Gearty had a stake.

Investigators from Sky became aware of the scam and alerted Beds police who raided properties in Luton and Dunstable on 13 February last year.

When the server was examined it was found to be able to send decoded channels to 2,000 boxes, said the prosecutor.

Gearty, of Wodecroft Road, Luton, pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to supplying articles for use in fraud and converting £10,225.85p of criminal property between May 2010 and February 2012 - that was the money received from the Amazon sales.

Ellis, of Bowles Way, Dunstable, pleaded guilty to making unauthorized decoders. The prosecutor said his role was technical and he had not profited to any great extent. When questioned by the police, he said he had done it because it was a technical challenge and had only received pizza.

He had one reprimand from 2003 for obtaining property by deception.
Cameron Scott, defending, said the business had been begun by Gearty's deceased brother Les. "He realised it was not a legitimate business but did not extract himself from it.

"Sky will say they suffered a loss of income but not all of those who purchased these boxes would have been prepared to pay for a full Sky service. That is why they bought the boxes."

Mr Scott said Ellis was the "technical brains" and played only a minor role. He said Ellis, who has Aspergers and dyspraxia, had been put under pressure by Les Gearty to get involved.

Judge Michael Kay QC jailed Gearty for 16 months and passed a 12 month community order on Ellis, who must perform 150 hours' unpaid work, be supervised by probation for 12 months and abide by a 3 month curfew between 7pm and 6am for 3 months,
The judge said: "This was a planned fraud with some level of sophistication."

This happens in the very same week that Anthony Underwood was given an 18 month suspended sentence for running through Luton town Centre with a machete and attacking Police. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-25363252

SMART TV BOXES. & SMART ANDROID XBMC RASPBERRY DAMAGING EYESIGHT POOR QUALITY - COSTA BLANCA SATELLITE TV and IPTV SERVICES

SMART TV BOXES.
"COSTA BLANCA SPAIN"
SMART TELEVISION
SMART TV
"COSTA DEL SOL"
 WARNING
With many people looking at purchasing "smart" and "raspberry pi" or "android" type internet television solutions we would like to explain the difference in picture quality and reliability. We have had many customers contact us after purchasing a cheap "android" or so called "smart tv box" or "Smart TV" these poor quality boxes are Manufactured in China and may cost your more money in the long run than you may be aware of, please read the information below.

Story written by Jeremy Stenton-Jones   Google+

If you have been sold a smart tv box or smart tv or android or raspberry pi or xbmc system box and are experiencing headaches or sore eyes then you may be very surprised at the information below.

How much is the real cost of a
"SMART TV BOX"
Many people have complained about getting headaches
and others have found that they are straining to watch poor quality TV channels and in some cases people can actually damage their eyesight and then have to spend a fortune on expensive prescription glasses.
What is the real cost?

Why is the quality if these cheap "smart tv" boxes so bad?

What damage can be done to my eyesight if I rely on a cheap "smart tv" box?

What is the best solution for internet TV?

Why have loads of these "smart tv" Companies suddenly sprung up?

Terrible picture quality of a "smart tv box purchased on the Costa Blanca"

On the Costa Blanca we have received loads of complaints from people that have purchased a smart tv box only to find the picture quality unbearable. With most of our clients owning the latest high definition TV sets they want a HD picture not a poor quality grainy picture like you get when using a so called smart tv box.

If you want the best possible HD TV Picture SKY+HD is the best picture available in high definition. If you simply cannot have a dish then you should take a look at the HD IPTV MAG-250 IPTV BOX as this box allows you to select what quality picture you require and connects to your TV using a HDMI cable. As with most things in life you get what you pay for.

Recent e-mail from a concerned Costa del Sol resident –
I recently bought a new 40-inch LED TV from MediaMarkt for our villa in San Pedro, a neighbour recommended a supplier who sells a SMART TV box that he told us would allow access to UK TV if we connect the box to the internet, since having everything installed I have noticed that my eyes really hurt after watching the TV. I have tried changing the settings for on the TV but still my eyes hurts even after 25 minutes
sometimes.

When we watch a DVD the picture quality is so much better and I do not get sore eyes. I initially thought that it must be something to do with the Television settings, I tried to contact the supplier of the smart tv box but despite several failed appointments with us waiting for a visit we decided to ask a local satellite installer to take a look, I don’t want to complain to my neighbor as I suppose he was only trying to help and our Daughter has just made friends with the twins so do not want to moan about the issues to him.
I called a local satellite TV installer and as soon as the satellite engineer noticed the smart tv box he let out a sigh and said "That is your problem there, that box is useless" he went on to tell us that this type of box is ok for a standard definition picture although with our TV having such a big screen and being LED that the picture the box supplies is not good enough and that we would better off buying a UK SKY+HD BOX with a PPN router so we can get bbc and itv through the internet after the big switch off.
The engineer also had a Mag250 iptv box with him that he has left with us for the weekend and I have to say that I am very impressed with the picture and channel line up and the catch up is also really handy as is the video library.
I would greatly appreciate your advice what you think the best option is.
Darren (San Pedro)
Response from the – IPTV SPAIN TECH TEAM
Hi Darren
Yes – Having a SKY+HD box is a great option you will require a UK VPN router + set up
an account with SKY UK. With a SKY subscription costing just £300 a year this is by far the best option with the best picture quality on the market for UK TV.
As far as that smart tv box is concerned ask for a full refund and if they refuse ask for
the complaints book. So sorry to hear about this, we advise you stop using that
so called smart tv box immediately as it could be damaging your entire Families
eyesight as the picture quality is not good enough for your new LED TV, imagine
buying a Ferrari and then topping off the tank with diesel. This is not good
and these poorly manufactured Chinese boxes seem to be flooding the market and leaving many unhappy customers.
Unlike SKY HD or a HD IPTV box such as the MAG-250 these cheap & nasty Chinese
"Smart TV" or as we call them "Not so Smart TV" boxes offer a cheap quick fix and many people have made the same mistake, a 40" LED TV should have built in up-scaling however these so called smart tv boxes have such a poor picture when using Filmon that this may be why you have been experiencing sore eyes.
Always a good sign if a supplier offers to leave a product with you to try we agree that the MAG-250 is a fantastic box although some people do prefer the superior picture quality of the SKY+HD BOX especially the newer WIFI model that can be supplied for around €400.
Let us know if you want a SKY+HD BOX and UK VPN router we can supply these on a
special bundle offer we have available. As with most things in life you get what
you pay for.

Hope this is of help to you

Astra SES make anouncement on Facebook regarding Astra 2E

SES ASTRA HAVE FINALY CONFIRMED
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ASTRA 2E.

Story written by Jeremy Stenton-Jones   Google+

This is what SES ASTRA have said;

As part of SES' ongoing fleet renewal programme, we will be transferring all the UK Spot Beam transponders currently operating on ASTRA 1N across to ASTRA 2E.

This move at the 28.2/28.5ºEast orbital location will take place over several weeks beginning early February 2014.

The transfer will have no adverse implications for viewers in the UK and Ireland as the affected channels will continue to operate on the same frequencies and will be broadcast at the same, or slightly improved power levels, across the UK and Ireland.

TV viewers outside the UK and Ireland may see an impact and may not be able to receive channels from ASTRA 2E UK Spot Beam, which has a smaller footprint than ASTRA 1N. The new footprint on SES' replacement fleet has been designed to meet the requirements of UK and Irish broadcasters who target their channels for distribution in the UK and/or Ireland. UK and Irish broadcasters hold broadcasting rights only for the UK and/or Ireland but not for other countries.

Update on UK IPTV in Spain what is the back up plan if Filmon gets shut down?

Android, XBMC, Raspberry PI and Smart TV box sellers
unable to confirm an alternative to Filmon.

This is a post that will appear on a Blog about "Loss of UK TV in Spain, The Big Switch Off"

Story written by Jeremy Stenton-Jones   Google+

Having shown this thread to several people this morning, we are all of the opinion that there is no real similar alternative to Filmon.

If you are selling, distributing, promoting or thinking of purchasing any of the following TV solutions such as “SMART TV” or “ANDROID” or “RAPSBERRY PI” please read the post below.

If you have gone to the dark side and have buried your head in the sand at least try and accept the truth, if you need help get in touch info@mrskytv.com

A certain company was recently discussing a new way of using the Filmon stream to provide a local supply of UK channels via a dedicated local server that was going to be available in a "open source" manner with no money changing hands and advising people to purchase a Raspberry PI or Android type of media player to access the stream using an offshoot of XBMC that allows people to access BBC, ITV etc via Filmon and also free streams that contain pirated movies and in some cases certain popular sports channels and TV shows and Documentary channels etc.
When we asked “What would happen if Filmon shut down?” we experienced a similar response from members of the trade who are pushing this type of box. We did learn however that the service they are looking to provide will remove the advertising from the Filmon streams so that you could watch BBC1 or ITV for example without any annoying advertisements popping up.
It was pointed out to the OP that removing the advertisements was in breach of contract with Filmon as set out within the Filmon T&C agreement, again no response.
This discussion took place on a IPTV related Facebook Group and after 2-3 days of receiving no response the thread was deleted and no longer exists. We now know that the creator of this Facebook Group is in fact selling and promoting Raspberry PI solutions.
We would like to confirm that during the 2-3 days that the thread existed we where subjected to various nasty comments and ridiculed in the same manner as we have on this thread. The question remains what is the alternative to Filmon? and Jamie who said and I quote “In any case, there are alternatives to FilmOn. Those alternatives are already installed in the internet set-top boxes that I use” This question has still not been answered. We wonder why? as do 500 members of a certain Facebook Group.
Whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion, it is often the case that people who do not want to answer your questions are hiding something and resort to petty comments or aggressive behaviour as they are backed in to a corner.
We simply cannot and will not stick our head in the sand, total reliance on Filmon as a source of UK TV is both irresponsible and bad advice in our opinion. As many people who have been worried about the new Astra 2E footprint possibly leaving thousands without UK TV are sold a system that may or may not work.

With many of them holding stock of this type of box that relies on spare bedroom internet pirates and illegal Singapore based Sports streamers that seem to come and go on a weekly basis to hardcore major league pirate organisations such as Piratebay, Pootlocker, Icefilm and Movie4K all now muscling in on a share of the IPTV pirate movie streaming services many sensible satellite engineers that we know in the trade have been tempted to the dark side of the Industry and are now openly marketing and promoting the use of these services from people unknown and that may disappear tomorrow.
We have been shocked at how many usually whiter than white satellite tv engineers have embraced this typoe of Pirate TV service and even started to promote it on Facebook and various forums.
In a recent UK court case a 25 year old computer geek called Richard O’Dwyer was arrested under instructions from the U.S Justice Department by British Police at his University in Sheffield having been the creator and founder of a Pirate website that promoted links to other websites that allowed computer users access to often unreleased movies and TV shows. He was arrested and had a long drawn out court case as he fought an extradition battle with U.S Justice Department’s legal team in the UK.
Eventually it was challenged that the U.S Justice Department had no jurisdiction as the website that O’Dwyer registered was  a UK based website hosted on British servers. On 28 November 2012, it was announced that O'Dwyer and the US had reached an agreement to avoid extradition, and all charges had been dropped.
Judge Sir John Thomas called the outcome "very satisfactory" adding, "It would be very nice for everyone if this was resolved happily before Christmas".  This was taken from Wikipedia the inverted commas are exactly as where shown on Wikipedia before anyone says anything.
Back to Filmon....
You will have read in our earlier posts that Filmon who actually streams live TV to your PC, Ipad, IPTV Box, Android box or XBMC platform are inevitably going to be subjected to continued attention from numerous Media giants such as Sony, CBS, HBO, BBC, ITV, CH4, CH5 and many production Companies chasing claims of copyright breaches.
When Jamie posted this;
“In any case, there are alternatives to FilmOn. Those alternatives are already installed in the internet set-top boxes that I use”
We became very exited as this would at least provide a couple of fall back positions, however it now looks like this was simply hot air and designed to confuse people in to making a purchase that may leave them “High & Dry” should Filmon be shut down.
The past 12 months have been bad enough for many people worrying about the possible loss of UK TV on the Costa del Sol and Portugal without selling a system that would ultimately leave people in a similar position should Filmon disappear.

If you want a reliable internet based solution to watching UK TV we can supply you the best solution using the best equipment such as the MAG-250

This is an excellent demonstration video that shows you just how easy the MAG-250 is to use.
